Carlo Fontana was born in Naples in 1951; he lives and works in Casier (TV).

 

He completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts (Accademia di Belle Arti) of Naples.  Carlo Fontana paints forms and daily objects and archetypes of the Mediterranean world, illuminated by a dazzling light, decomposed in the colors of the iris through a faceted structure, in a thick, bright and dense painting, achieved by making use of diluted pigments in linseed oil. The house, the tree, the Neapolitan coffeepot. they are recurrent subjects, situated in an environment awash of sun and the wet of blue sea as that of Naples, his place of origin. The domestic interiors are placed side by side by the outside  landscapes, foreshortenings of bridges, of an imaginary Venetian island not well defined, even though the human figure has appeared in his works to underline the relationship with the environment and grown into the series "Rowing" developing a relationship between mind and body and the surrounding space, as well as a windmill. Even though there is no human presence of man, the genius of man, it is present in the architecture and in the objects that he has built. Only in the last years the human figure has appeared in his works to underline the relationship with the environment and may be seen in the series "Rowing" with the goal to develop a relationship between mind and body and surrounding space.
